The INIKA Story + Special Offer

We invited INIKA founder Miranda Bond to share her inspiring story with you:

I’m delighted to be sharing the Inika story with the TOM community.  I met TOM founder Aimee at a conference last year and was blown away by this incredible and inspiring woman.  I love the TOM products and think Aimee has created such a beautiful and worthwhile brand.

Miranda Bond

This is the story of Inika and how our prestige natural cosmetics brand came to be.  My background is not in cosmetics.  I migrated to Australia from the UK in 1997. Having struggled with endometriosis and associated infertility for many years, in my mid 30s I had all but resigned myself to the fact that I would not conceive naturally when I came across a book called The Hormone Heresy. Written by American holistic wellness guru Dr. Sherill Sellman, the book suggested that women like me could restore balance to our endocrine systems by changing our diet, eliminating chemicals in the daily products we use, and using natural progesterone cream.

Figuring I had nothing to lose, I resolved to follow the guidelines in the book – which included throwing out all my makeup – and within three months I was pregnant, and suitably overjoyed ! After the birth of my healthy daughter Lola in 2002, my endometriosis cleared up completely, after years of being told by doctors that there was no solution other than surgery. I was amazed, and resolved to focus my life on helping to educate and empower other women to take control of their health by limiting the toxins they put into their bodies and by seeking out natural options wherever possible.

Shortly after, I presented community workshops on Toxic Free Living, and went on to form the not for profit website www.thrivinghealthywomen.com.au, dedicated to providing information and resources on women’s health and toxic free living.

After being bombarded by emails from women around the globe searching for all-natural makeup, and finding there were so few options out there, I decided to create my own range. The result was INIKA, a 100 percent natural makeup brand incorporating organic and vegan products that were devoid of synthetic chemicals, containing only the finest natural ingredients.

We have won numerous awards since our inception in 2006, over 30 awards for product excellence and innovation including the prestigious ACP Magazine award for Best Foundation and we were nominated for the Marie Claire Prix de Beaute award for Best Product, sitting alongside Dior and Chanel.

Unlike many so called ‘natural’ brands, INIKA products are guaranteed to be completely free from harsh petrochemicals, fillers, talc, bismuth oxychloride, GMO ingredients, parabens, preservatives, mineral oils, phthalates and fragrances. In an industry that is still largely unregulated and rife with ‘green washing’, I believe it can be difficult for consumers to make informed choices about what to use on their skin. That’s why all our INIKA products carry the triple consumer guarantee: to be cruelty-free, to be vegan, to be Halal, in addition half of our products range is CERTIFED Organic by Australia’s OFC body, which ensures that they contain between 75-95% certified organic content.

I believe in glamour that is good for you, natural does not have to be boring!

We are so excited to be sharing INIKA with TOM customers that we are offering an amazing introductory $20 voucher for all TOM customers, simply check out the TOM Facebook page for details. INIKA products

PETA is short for ‘People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ and just recently, TOM became one of these ‘people’ and was finally recognised as cruelty free and vegan.

It may alarm you to know that this achievement is quite a rarity in both the health/beauty and feminine hygiene industry. While not all fem hygiene is necessarily tested on animals, many other brands’ parent companies aren’t always able to make this claim, under PETA’s rules, if your brand’s parent company can’t claim cruelty-free than neither can yours, which makes us one of the few in the industry recognised by PETA! PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.

There are more than 3 million PETA members and supporters around the world, making it the largest animal rights organisation on our planet! PETA focuses its attention on four areas where the animals need it the most: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry.

Here at TOM, we absolutely adore our animals… in fact we’ve been talking all about them this week, and these are our favourites:

Aimee: Polar bears – “I love that they love the snow, and are super strong yet look really cuddly”

Amber: Elephants – “Because they have a really strong emotional connection to each other and they are also super smart and strong”

Georgie: Emperor penguins – “I love the electric yellow streak of colour on their coats and loyal loving nature to partners and family”

Ash: Tigers- “I like the way their mothers are protective of their young, it reminds me of the behaviour of human kind”

Our products are also vegan. Just like us, animals are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives, it is the right for all beings to be free from harm… we ensure that everything that goes into our products makes this entirely possible for them!!

Just like we exercise the choice to choose an organic Time Of Month, we also have the power to spare animals pain by making better choices about the food we eat, the things we buy, and the activities we support. TOM Organic: Proud to be Cruelty Free.

Does cruelty-free play a role in your buying decisions? We’d love to know why!

These delicious, chewy cookies are super easy to make and are packed full of goodness. As an added bonus, they’re also Gluten, Egg and Dairy free, which means you’ll be able to share them with EVERYONE! Nom nom nom…

Ingredients:
2 1/2 Cups Oragnic Almond Meal
1/2 Cup Organic Nut Butter (Cashew, Almond, Brazil & Macadamia are great!)
1/2 Cup Unsweetened Shredded Organic Coconut
1/2 Cup Dried Organic Cranberries (Sugar & Preservative free!)
1/2 Cup Raw Honey (or 1/3 Cup Agave Syrup)
1/4 Cup Organic Coconut Oil (melted)
1/2 Tbsp Ground Ginger
1 Tsp Mixed Spice
1/2 Tsp Sea Salt
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
Method (makes approx. 20 cookies):
  1. Preheat your oven to 180 Degrees and line a flat baking tray with non-stick paper
  2. Combine all the ingredients except for cranberries in a mixing bowl and mix well with an electric mixer
  3. Fold in your dried cranberries
  4. Using a dessert spoon, place spoonfuls of cookies on your lined tray leaving room between the cookies because they will slightly expand
  5. Using the back of a spoon or your hand, slightly flatten the cookies
  6. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until golden but ensure you continually check it so you don’t burn them (note: they’ll still be soft when you take them out – they’ll harden as they cool).
  7. Remove from the oven, place on a cooling rack or plate and leave to cool (maybe also sneak a taste at this point…)
  8. Pop them in an airtight container and try not to eat them all at once!
